Sweet Wilbur was born on May 31 to a mama who had a very difficult and long labor, and did not survive long after delivering this beautiful calf. Poor Wilbur didn’t have his mama, and then not 5 days later, was attacked by a dog and sustained wounds around his head and neck and one very bad puncture wound to his ankle. The farmers were terribly sad and worried, but then suffered another blow: the pastor for their community died. This was all too much and so they reached out to us to see if we would care for and raise Wilbur.
Well, it turned out that Wilbur’s leg wound was more serious than we originally thought, and so we brought him up to New Bolton Center – the University of Pennsylvania vet school hospital. They performed surgery on his leg and have been treating him with strong antibiotics. Slowly he is getting better, the swelling in his leg is going down, and he is starting to put weight on his foot. We hope that soon he will be doing those silly calf jump and bucks and able to be a happy-go-lucky baby.
You can help us with Wilbur’s hospital expenses by making a donation, or by sponsoring Wilbur.
When he comes home, we’ll celebrate by having some visitor days!
