Hi. I’m Dwayne. I’m really, really shy. I came here with a whole lot of sheep, but some of them got adopted out to other farms. I stayed here with the two ladies who ended up having babies. I love them and their babies.

Toby, the Brown Dog
They called me “Tuff”. Once in a while they fed me. But I knew they didn’t like me. They told the lady, “yeah, he lives in the woods, but he probably won’t make it through the next winter.” The lady’s mouth hung open.
Behind the Scenes
There is a whole lot that goes on at this sanctuary – some of it’s sweet, some of it’s funny, and some of it is, well, a bit rude. The animals have had a chance in the last months to express themselves creatively.
Raindrop
I am named Raindrop because the first time my new mom met me I was standing out in the rain, waiting to be let in. I lived on a sad farm with a lot of sad sheep. Sometimes we didn’t get sheared.
Belinda
Look. They named me Belinda before anyone heard my amazing and wonderful squeaky crowing. I was dumped in the city and I spent really quite a long time wandering around, not sure what I ought to do. Then I met some humans and they put food out for me and seemed to like me (this was before they knew I was a rooster).

Our animals learned to write years ago and now they have put their skills to use in writing to Santa. A different letter every day from a different animal … letting him know if they’ve been naughty or nice, and asking if maybe, just please maybe, he’ll bring them a gift!

Copper
There was a time a few years ago when I honestly wasn’t sure I wanted to go on. I lived with an incredible number of rabbits and it was dirty and smelly and awful, and a boy rabbit made me pregnant without my permission.
Samson
I was just there. On the side of a rural road in West Virginia. My feathers were missing on my head and my tail and were all on the ground near me. I could hardly walk at all. Then what happened?
Walter
I’m a really lucky duck. I was passed from hand to hand, but the last hand knew that I needed a farm to live on and he drove all way out here to make sure I’d be ok. Some people are A-OK.
