Additional costs

I reserve the right to assess additional fees for any of the following conditions:

  • Sheep with more than one year's growth or goats with more than 8 months' growth (depending on the complexity of the job).
  • Animals with extremely long and problematic hooves that require special tools and/or excessive time and labor.
  • Wrangling: any animal handling that extends beyond flipping and shearing the animal (e.g. catching and bringing the animal to the shearing location).
  • Excessively dirty animals requiring both more frequent blade changes and/or significant slowdown in the work.
  • Dirty and/or wet shearing conditions requiring extra time to clean all equipment and equipment containers.

Scheduling and cancellations

Reservations for new clients

In order to reserve your space in the schedule, we do ask that new clients send a non-refundable $40 deposit, to be applied to the full shearing cost at shearing time.

During peak shearing season (late March through late May), I book up a month or more in advance. Please do not wait until you see that your sheep are hot to think about calling. I urge you to phone or email in February or March to set up your shearing date. Facilities without indoor shearing available should provide rain dates.

If you need to cancel, please give me the courtesy of at least 24 hours notice; I have a long waiting list starting in early April. New clients will be asked to send a deposit ensuring that their spot is reserved.

Please call 301-349-0802 to schedule your shearing, or fill out the shearing request form!
