  • Animals with extremely long and problematic hooves that require special tools and/or excessive time and labor.
  • Wrangling: any animal handling that extends beyond flipping and shearing the animal (e.g. catching and bringing the animal to the shearing location).
  • Excessively dirty animals requiring both more frequent blade changes and/or significant slowdown in the work.
  • Sheep weighing more than 300 pounds.
  • Dirty and/or wet shearing conditions requiring extra time to clean all equipment and equipment containers.

Scheduling and cancellations

During peak shearing season late March through late May), we book up to three weeks or more in advance. Please do not wait until you see that your sheep are hot to think about calling us. We urge you to phone or email in February or March to set up your shearing date. Facilities without indoor shearing available should provide rain dates.

If you need to cancel, please give us the courtesy of at least 24 hours notice; we have a long waiting list starting in April.

Please call 301-349-0802 to schedule your shearing, or fill out our shearing request form!
