Animal News: The Chronicles of Newman and other StoriesWaking Up With Goats8 September, 2004 I had just returned from a trip; my neighbors had pinch-hit for me feeding the animals while I was gone since regular farm sitter was unavailable. I returned late at night. It was dark. I had just driven 12 hours. So, all I could do was to check water buckets and count heads, and fall into bed. It never occurred to me that someone (ahem) had left the gate open to the No Goat Zone. I did (ahem) leave the back door open to the garden but it oughtn't to have been a problem.... Morning came with an awful lot of noise in the house. I thought it was Ti-gba (puppy) playing with all the boxes I had brought in and not yet unpacked. But then, no... it was louder than that. Hard sounds. Clacking sounds. Could it be.... the bizarre reality hit me: HOOVES! I dashed out of bed just in time to see Madison the sheep running down the hallway towards the office (AKA feed room). About to go and intercept him, I was arrested by the sound of yet more hooves coming from the living room. There, I beheld Newman perched on the sofa (new sofa, nice, clean sofa) and his cohort Rosalita doing a dance on the hardwood floors. Oh, how goats love the inside of a house. I wish I could say that some order was restored to the house but this goatly invasion has seemed to plunge the residence of Star Gazing Farm into a whirlpool of chaos. Anyone know a good maid?
