Animal News: The Chronicles of Newman and other StoriesHarrassing the Pig21 January, 2004 The cold has kept Mr. Newman Goat inside and on good behavior (relatively speaking). However, his habit of breaking into cars continues to be an issue. Yesterday he broke in and found some unmailed bills. It was interesting what he chose to eat and not eat. A thank you letter to Stephanie of HSUS was untouched, as was a letter to Sundown Ridge. The vet bill was half chewed up (the postage stamp side, so it couldn't be mailed) but the IRS payment and check to Pentagon Federal Credit Union had disappeared without a trace. Apparently Newman shares my distaste for my creditors and was perhaps trying to spare me the expense of paying them off! Newman has also decided that harassing the pig during mealtimes is good sport. Unfortunately this morning he upset Tetsuro the pig so much that Tetsuro started to choke. It looked to be serious; he was drooling, coughing, running around in a panic. Try doing a Heimlich maneuver on a pig.... (I did) In fact I was trying all the things I learned in Pet first aid, but funnily enough he wouldn't stand still for me to pick up his hind legs to turn him upside down. All the sheep gathered around in great concern, and fortunately in the end Tetsuro was able to dislodge the offending object in his throat and even finished his breakfast without incident. It was an eventful morning for all, and I will be spending some time tracing back whatever payments have gone down the goat's gullet.....
