| Wish List | Sponsor an animal! Derry the Maremma Dog needs surgery!8-6-07 — Two years ago Derry tore his Cranial Crucial Ligament (ACL) on his right hind leg and had to undergo surgery. He has now torn the ACL on his left hind leg and requires the same surgery. It is painful, expensive, and has a long recovery period. But it is necessary.
He keeps the sheep, goats ducks and chickens safe from predators. He is an athlete and a working dog. He is a loving dog and loyal to the farm. He must have this surgery to not live in pain and to be able to do his job. 11-15-07 UPDATE — Derry is scheduled for surgery on Monday, November 19. We have opted for the newer method (Called TPLO) which costs just a bit more, but promises to have him recovered much sooner. WILL YOU HELP?
Any donation, large or small, will help us raise the funds for Derry ’s surgery, and will be acknowledged by a beautiful photo of Derry , a thank you letter with a tax-deductible receipt, and recognition on our web site. Would you like to distribute flyers for Derry at your place of work or school? A PDF flyer can be downloaded here. Costs for the surgery and follow-up therapy: Surgery, including blood work, anaesthesia and pain medication: $2945 Post op medication (anti-inflammatories and joint building meds): $300 Physical and swim therapy: $700 TOTAL COSTS: $3945
Please help us raise the funds for this essential surgery. We accept credit cards on our web site. Checks can be made out to “Star Gazing Farm” (please note that the donation is specifically for Derry ’s fund). * *In the happy event that we receive more than $3945 in donations for this cause, we will reserve the money first for any additional costs that may be needed for Derry's care and rehabilitation including medication and physical therapy. Should any money be left over once he is fully recovered, we will place it in a special veterinary fund. Emergencies happen: just recently our female goat Rosalita nearly died of the bloat and had to be administered emergency veterinary care. There are also regular veterinary expenses such as annual rabies shots (administered to 22 animals), West Nile Virus and Potomac fever shots (administered to equines), and dental work. We never want to be in a position to not be able to pay for medical care of an animal. THANK YOU !!!
